The closing ceremony of the 2024 Emili Pujol International Guitar Competition, which took place in the auditorium of the Centre Cívic Garrigues Altes, featured the 8 participants selected to develop a program proposed by the organization, where the presence of the works of the maestro Emili Pujol enjoyed an excellent performance by the contestants representing Colombia, Cuba, Poland, Turkey, Ukraine and Spain.
The first qualifying round, consisting of the works Bagatela by maestro Pujol and a 5-minute free work for the contestant, served to start a contest that promised a high level of participation, which finally the members of the jury, formed by the Tarragona concert guitarist Anabel Montesinos, the composer and guitarist from Lleida José Antonio Chic and the guitarist of Cuban origin and professor at Tulane University from New Orlenas, Javier Olondo, coincided in the selection for the final with the Cubans Legna Tabares and Josué Fonseca, along with the young Turk Özberk Miraç Sarigül.
The Final took place with the interpretation of the work Barcarola by maestro Pujol and a maximum of 8 minutes of free choice for the finalists. The Jury’s decision unanimously ruled as the winner the Turkish guitarist Özberk Miraç Sarigül, who also won the Prize for the best interpretation of the selected works of the maestro Emili Pujol and which was presented by the mayor of Granadella, Elena Llauradó. The second prize was awarded by the Garrigues representative Núria Palau to Josué Fonseca, who also won the audience prize, acclaimed by the audience and enthusiastic about his interpretation. The third prize went to the young Legna Tabares, presented by Jordi Guimet, president of the Emili Pujol Association.
While the difficult task of deciding a verdict on the order of the winners was taking place, we had the honor of having a luxurious second part with the extraordinary participation of the Barcelona Guitar Orchestra, with a career spanning almost thirty years, founded by its director, maestro Sergi Vicente. With an exquisite musical selection, the concert ended with applause from the audience.
Finally, Francesc de Dios, journalist and presenter of Teleponent, closed the contest by inviting us to the fourth edition that will take place on July 19 and 20, 2025.
